October 17, 2006, Philadelphia, PA—Locks Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by Warren Rohrer, on view October 17 through November 11, 2006.
An artist known for his acute sensitivity to line and the imprint of each brush stroke, Warren Rohrer (1927-1995) was absorbed with the calligraphic marks he identified as his field language. His paintings from the late 1980s and 1990s are characterized by these lively marks - seemingly written across the canvas. This exhibit highlights the gradual steps taken by the artist to master these forms and includes a series of late paintings that have not been shown since 1991.
Warren Rohrer taught for 25 years at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The subject of a retrospective at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2003, Warren Rohrer 's work is in many museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Denver Art Museum, Smith College Museum of Art, the Allentown Art Museum and the Delaware Art Museum.
