"Watercolor is an intimate, even a delicate, medium. Robert Rahway Zakanitch is more than willing to respect those qualities-- note, for example, the supple variation of the petals in the blossoms of "Ruffled Jubilee," one of the twelve works that compose "The Grand Dado Series" (1995-96). Zakanitch is endlessly subtle. Also, he is an ambitious painter with a predilection for the large gesture and the immense, unfurling image. The five paintings of his "Big Bungalow Suite" (1990-95) are over thirty feet wide. The works in this exhibition are big, as well, and not only in comparison to other watercolors. ..." -Carter Ratcliff
