September 2007, Philadelphia, PA - Locks Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new prints by Polly Apfelbaum. The exhibition will be on view from October 5-27, 2007. There will be an opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, October 5, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
Polly Apfelbaum’s “Big Love” will be her first exhibition in Philadelphia since her major survey at the Institute of Contemporary Art in 2003. “Big Love” is comprised of large scale, vibrant monoprints on handmade paper. Each print is unique, and painstakingly produced by an arrangement of flower-shaped woodblocks, each printed in a single color. Apfelbaum’s floral compositions are at once delightfully sweet and tremendously powerful.
Apfelbaum, a graduate of Tyler School of Art, has shown extensively throughout the United States and internationally. Solo museum exhibitions include Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, MO; Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, OH; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO; Museum of Contemporary Art, Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland; and Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, ME, among others. She currently lives and works in New York.
